Help! electric problem "license plate lamp"

    Hi!
I have no light on the license plate lamp (driver's side). There is light on the passenger side. I change to brain new bulb, No light either. I measure the electric current with a multimeter. No current. Is my LCM module wrong???? Thanks in advance.

You probably have a broke wire in the rubber boot(

that brings the wires from the body to the trunk lid. Both lights have their own wires to the LCM.
The drivers side blub wire is gray/brown (goes to LCM) and brown that connects to chassis ground.

    Everyone should read this....

I regularly post links back to this post of mine. I just did it here less than a month ago. Everyone should be regularly inspecting this area for cracks in the wire insulation. Once it cracks, then the trunk lid motion twists on the copper strands directly at the crack and it fails soon after.

I don't know why my one embedded picture is now a broken link, but the link to the full set of pics still works fine.

Re: I'm surprised mine aren't broken yet.

It will obviously depend on how often you use your trunk compartment. For me, I can't go anywhere without using the trunk a couple of times (kids, kids junk, kids seats taking up backseat space I might otherwise use).

My dad's 2002 which has had every other common and un-common E39 problem also has no issues in the trunk boot. Go figure.

Have had the same problem for a while...

Checked the wires in my trunk harness and Voila, a broken wire. 10 minutes at lunch and now both lights working.
    Thanks...
