Cable Sound?? Anyone?
Anyone ever experiance a faint sound in the cabin that increases with speed? The sound is faint and goes away when stopped. It sounds like its coming from inside the dash. Changing the HVAC fan speed does not affect it. Just slowing down and speeding up the car impacts it.
It almost sounds like a speedometer cable noise like in the old days. Do E39's even have speedometer cables?
Any clues or ideas welcome so I can start hunting it down.

Re: Cable Sound?? Anyone?
There is no speedometer cable - all electronic.
There are only 2 things in the dash that will change with speed
- increase in vol of the audio system.
- gradual closure of the main intake air flap to prevent overpressure of the cabin. But that does not start till you get to higher speeds and you really should not hear it constantly if at all.
Sound travels in a car and the source can be difficult.
First thing to check - are all the large rubber jack blocks securely in place at the 4 lifting jack points?
Another question - is the noise only related to the car movement - or is is possibly related to engine speed? IE - does it occur when stopped but the engine is revved?

long shot. try cleaning out the vent slots
on left side on climate control panel. Vacuum or use a toothpick to take
dust from holes. Not all slots are open. Then use some Radio Shack contact cleaner and spray into openings. you may have to do this a few times. The noise may be a dry bearing on climate control air sampler fan.
