"Trans Program"
On my '93 525i, every once in a while, my transmission loses its gears, meaning that when starting in "Drive", it is stuck in 4th gear. When this occurs, I get a message of "Trans Program". This has happened maybe every 7 months or so, but it's happened two consecutive mornings now. However, if I turn off the engine and start it back up, everything is fine. I had the trans rebuilt 60,000 miles ago.
Anyone have this similar occurrence?
Thanks.

Re: Trans Program
It could be a number of things but you should look for the common causes first- Throttle Position Sensor starting to fail, Upshift sensor failure. Hickups in the DME program can cause this too. A simple RE-flash of the DME sometimes will clear the problem. Befor spending a ton of money to R&R the trans, it's worth the bucks to have the trans error code/s retrieved.

Re: Trans Program
Bought my 92 525i in september and had the same problem. Check enging light was also coming on. Did a stomp test and got only one code for the O2 sensor. Before going through the trouble of changing the sensor I pulled the tranny pan and inspected the wiring inside to make sure there weren't any shorts. Sometimes the wiring insulation melts and wires make contact to each other or the pan. The wiring was fine though. Last month I finally changed the O2 sensor and no more TRANS PROG error code. My idle has also improved as well as fuel economy. Hope this helps...
