    Pixelation

2003 X5 with 3.0i and 74,000 miles. Recent addition to family. Temperature pixels faint a few weeks ago when took delivery. Now odometer and trip meter out. My 11th BMW since 1978 - anyone care to comment on my chances of the "goodwill" replacement? (Read the posts from the past)

BTW- my '93 740iL with over 193,000 miles - never an issue with the pixels.

    Thanks, Grahambo

IMO, chances aren't good for non-orignal owner >

Talk to your dealer because you may be able to at least negotiate for you to buy part(s) and have dealer cover the labor.

They just recently did this for my steering wheel.

There was an online vendor that would fix the dash cluster and install the metal gauge bezels that you see in the 4.6/4.8is and '06 sport models. I don't recall the website but you may find it with a search.

I'll let you know if I remember it.

Thanks for the response. I don't deal with a dealer as a rule. Never bought a BMW from a BMW dealer - only used for recall issues. Might take some negotiations or I will be forced to figure it out myself. I have done a lot of repairs in all these years as I have been the only one to work on all of my 11 BMWs. My problem now getting about too old for some repairs. The recent driveshaft replacement about got me on the E32 - dropped exhaust and did all the work by myself including rebuilding the LADs. Did the valve body a few years ago and the entire front suspension.

Contact BMWNA Customer Service they will very likely help you. This is widely known issue and BMW is dealing with it if requested rather than having WW recall an all vehicles.. Happened to me 2x and each time they've arranged with a local dealer where they would cover the part and I would pay for the labor ($100 - 150) Search site for their email address.

    Re: Pixelation

I asked my dealer about it and they had never heard of a goodwill replacement but would be glad to order the part for me. I was about to order one from the pixel place, but I searched the archives here, got the phone number of the right person, called her and she said no problem. They would contact my dealer and send the part. I paid $100 to have the dash panel replaced. When I called the dealer to ask them to call me when hte part came in, the person I spoke with said BMW does the goodwill replacement all the time. I'm the second owner and it was about 6 years old at the time. Give it a try. Nothing to lose. Mine is a 2001 4.4 with 200k miles and no real problems.

    Re: Pixelation

I was contacted by BMWNA and they reveiewed the service record and will make arrangements for the repair to be done at the nearest dealer with BMWNA paying 50% parts and labor. So........we shall see how this works out.

    Thanks
