e39 window/mirror console gremlin

OK I need help here.CAn't find anything in search
Problem: from door console my side mirrors go inop along with all windows except driver, randomly.Drivers window always works and does not chime in with the rest.
No ryme or reason that I can tell.The mirror adjust button works randomly and the windows along with it. When one works they all work,when one goes inop they all go inop.(except drivers wdw) You can go to specific door and window will work but not from driver console. Is there a control module or relay for the door window/mirror console operations?

Sounds like the control module in the driver's door is not communicating with the others.

The switch panel at the driver's door is also the control computer for that door, and it also sends signals to:
- the control module in the passenger front door for operations in that door
- the general module (behind glove box) to control the rear doors.

These communication signals are on the digital bus network - so your description of the problem makes sense if there is a communication fault.

The fault could be at the driver's door module, or on the buss itself. Rather difficult to find since the bus wiring loops around the car. Unless you know of something that may have affected modules or wiring in the dash or driver's door area then the best thing to do would be to have a diagnostic run - there will be error codes stored.

You might also check the connector on the bottom of the switch panel (pulls out of door) and also at the door frame (large connector)

in my last usage, my fuel gauge would slowly register Full at fill up.It took hours. Reboot all ws back to normal. Sort of like windows fix control -alt- delete

Will have a diag. test run to see what fault codes show up.
Gonna try the short battery cable thing first.

IS this just touching body with positive cable?

Whats the chance of screwing up some other electrical items in the car by doing this? Any precautions needed in preparation?
