abs and asc light 97 528
Happy Holidays everyone!
Yesterday abs and asc light remain on. Looked in the bently manual but no real diagnostic information there and I dont have access to a code reader for the abs system. What would trigger just these two warnings. My transmission also has a hard time getting out of second gear. I can manually drive in 3rd...move back to drive and that seems to fix it. I think there are 4 sensors in the gar.. 2 right front and 2 left rear but anyway to pinpoint which one without diagnostic tools?
97 528I 230k- almost everything is still original on the car.. I have been lucky!
Thanks in advance,
Nick

There can be a number of things and you really
need to read the codes. That will give you starting point. Without it, the only things you can do are:
check/clean the electrical connectors on your wheel speed sensors as they sometimes can be physically damaged by road debris,
check/clean electrical connectors on your ABS/ASC pump in engine bay.

Re: abs and asc light 97 528
Same here on my 2000 528i. Replaced wheel senosr - did nothing. I'm curious if you pull the ABS module unit off if it changes the tranny issue.
I had the codes read and they said it was the ABS. I prayed it would not be the hydrolics (big bucks). I sent my unit to Module Masters for a $300 repair and that worked. No more ABS light and DSC light.

Re: Hopefully only sensor NOT ABS computer
Well, it seemed to fix it's self after I posted the issue. See Roadfly is magic like that!
but then it came back on.... I want to pull the wheels off but it's just to dam cold here in Chicago. Maybe something jarred lose. Might just throw some sensors at it if the problem persists. They are 230k old... So start with the front right? there are two there no? Bently manual not too good with this issue.

try right front first, IT most likely is not ABS
computer because some early e39 had computer in glove box area. not engine bay where they all get cooked after a while.
