Looking at a 93 525
Hi everyone.
I'm looking at a 93 525 with 63K and an automatic. This is my aunt's car and she has owned it from new. I understand that this might have the M50B25 or the M50TUB25 motor in it. How can I tell by looking at the motor or is there a specific date the switch was made to the VANOS motor?
Are there any weak spots on this year that I should look at?

Past BMW owned: 91 318i, 94 325is, 99 540iT, 01 330Xi, 04 X5 4.4i

Still bullet-proof!
the M50TUB25 is an upgraded version of the M50B25 with VANOS. The horsepower is the same with slightly higher torque at higher RPMs. This engine was introduced in 93 and was in production till late 95. Chances are there is LSD on this model (3.19 - 3.64) but the only way to know for sure which one is to call BMW NA or a steeler with the VIN#, only takes a minute.
