can not remove the terminal
The positive battery terminal is caked with a gel like or soft clay feeling substance. The color is gray and red. I'm not sure if the is from the battery leaking or a protective moisture barrier. I have removed two nuts from the clamp and it will not budge.
-is that gooey substance suppose to be around the clamp/terminal?
-there is a plastic protective cover around the + cables. I. Do not know how to remove it. It doesn't appear that there may be an additional nut under this cover.
Why can't I remove the battery clamp?

Can you post a pic?
The positive termainal has a red plastic housing that has a sort of door on its top that pops open so you can view the termnal. If you don't have this, perhaps the thing melted down over the terminal, and that's what you're calling the goo? You may have to pry the clamp open wider from the terminal, and/or tap it open with a hammer+rod. Make sure the negative terminal is off when you do this.

Whatever that substance is, it didn't come from >
the factory like that. Most corrosion appears as a blueish-green deposit which does not have a clay-like consistency. It sounds like someone before you has put some kind of anti-corrosion substance on that terminal and that's what you're dealing with. Depending on its "adhesive" properties, separating the terminal from the post could be problematic. Too much torque and/or impact can damage the battery where the terminal post joins the battery case. Whatever you've got there, I'm glad it isn't on my battery. Lotsa luck.
