Paint coming off roof molding on rack access ports

The paint is chipping off the access ports for my roof rack. Has anyone else had this issue? fixed it?
I don't really want to go for the touch up paint, it would not look very good. The dealer said there is an entire strip for each side of the car that has to be replaced.

Does anyone have any instructions / advice?

The entire gutter strip can be removed and painted

Maybe $150 to do both? That would be the best solution. Any slight mismatch would not be discernable.

    Go to...

...www.realoem.com. Once you input your vehicle's info and the part lists come up, go to Main Group 51 (Vehicle Trim) and then to Subgroup 51 20 (Exterior Trim). The "roof molding", left or right (#1) lists for 96.00 or so. Don't forget to get new clamps (#2). I'm not sure if the thin rubber gasket comes with the new molding.

Re: Paint coming off roof molding on rack access ports

One of mine started to corode after 5 years. Sanding the corrosion and putting on touch up paint did little to stop it. I found out that this piece is Aluminum and for some odd reason had started to corode. I ended up buying a new rail and had the shop paint it. It does comes with the rubber seal and yes, if you go this route, buy some extra clips becouse some will break when they remove the old piece. You of course can have the old piece repainted as well. I wouold have taken this route if it werent for the corosion that seemed to never stop.
