He's probably OK to own a dog one day...
but he may have trouble finding someone that will home a rescue with him. And for him to continue to be part of the solution he needs to adopt a dog; not buy one from a breeder. His baby's momma(fiance?) could go get one from a shelter any time she wants. Then the dog would become the family dog. Not sure if the courts ever determined whether he could have a dog in his name or not.
