Radiator Cost - Wow... prices are up... (m)
I have to do a few maintenance items to my 1997 540/6 which I hope to do 12/27-12/28 (valve cover gaskets, pan gaskets, water pump & thermostat), and was thinking of changing out my radiator again, since it has been 70k since I last changed it (and it blew at 80k).
I checked the price, and it is now $325 online... Does that seem high? I seem to remember only a few years ago it was about $180.... Has time gone by that fast?
:o)

prices are amazing Cabin filters $22.73 set M
The filters looked cheap, no longer plastic frames, made by German Manufacturer. I almost want to return them, UNTIL I saw the new ones at dealer from $150/ pair, were also as cheaply made. Cardboard frame , just like those I paid $22.73 for set of two. Actually they looked the same, just a differeent color box they came in. That is some saving

$150 a pair, are you kidding?!!!
Jay,
Even on this continent of high prices and value-added taxes, they are only about 45 euros a pair (about $55-60) from the dealer. I still order mine online, and, a few years ago, I did like e39silver and ordered some from autohausaz. This spring I am going to get a new pair, probably this time from RMEuropean:
Cabin Air Filters
I have had really good luck not using the $21-25 charcoal ones and instead going with the $15 ones. I notice no difference, but then again, the number of times I ever have my a/c on is about the same number of times BMW540san uses a hydraulic jack to lift his rides. As in never ;-0

Re: are the plastic frames ones better than the soft
I think I've had the best seal from some which were basically heavy cardboard/fiber frame with open cell foam along the edges. I'm not sure what exact brand I last purchased, whether Bosch, Mann or ACM, but I always get the ones with charcoal via an OEM supplier like autohausaz.
While plastic may seem better and cardboard seems "cheap", I only really care how the end result works. The seal was good from these and the filter media still looked top notch.
