The death of a gang banger

He was the fourth of six boys - sextuplets if you will.

His name was Sparky and always did as he was told. When the leader told him to fire, that's exactly what he did - never asking questions. He worked tirelessly, almost like a machine.

He was a good kid, though - rumour has it that he only screwed once. And that was because he was forced to.

Life went on and he continued working with his brothers. Then something happened. Nobody is quite sure what, but he seemed to have come unwound.

He was taken to a doctor and that's when it happened. POW! He shot out of there and was killed instantly.

The leader said fook, and replaced him for $6.49 + sales tax.

Goodbye, Sparky, we hardly knew ya!

Not the actual spark plug, but not far from it, either.

Turns out it was cheaper to hire a local guy from accurate engines here in Lynnwood to come out and do it for a hundred bucks than spend $250 for the kit that I'd likely have done once.

The pictures and video on time-sert web page are completely accurate. Oversized thread creator is used (twice). Lots of grease on it and it brought up all the aluminum chips from the head.

Second reaming and we left it in. Another tool is used over this to cut out a gap for the spark plug washer. Then a third tool is used to thread in the time sert. That's absolutely it. The guy was a bit ADD, so it took about an hour. Also, I pulled out a vacuum cleaner to bring any chips up, although this isn't a requirement - aluminum is quite soft and small chips can easily go out the exhaust valve.

Most folks I've talked with say helicoils fail all the time, so I wouldn't go with anything with the helicoil brand on it.
