    Speaker Testing

Any suggestions on how to test a speaker once it's no longer connected? I had them all replaced yesterday (other than the sub-woofer) and asked that they note which one of the two in the driver side door was bad (one was clearly defective). So, when I picked the car up and asked, they said that the installer said "what difference does it make, they're all being replaced". As I want to offer them for sale, it does make a difference, and the genius installer said "it has a rip in it". Well, one is plastic and neither of the two others are torn. Thus, I need to find a way to test them.
    Thanks.

    Crude test

Connect the terminals to a 9 V battery. Brush the wire back and forth across one of the terminals. You'll hear crackling if it works.

If you hear crackling it could still be crappy but at least it's not dead.

Do you have some kind of receiver etc for your TV or stereo? Hook up wires with the sound down low.

    Re: Speaker Testing

How about connecting the speakers to a mini jack and plugging them into your computer. That should give you a good idea if they are working and sound good.

    Re: Speaker Testing/Update

I just took a closer look at the speakers that came out--the two that were (I think) from the footwells both had the cone separating from the speaker frame, as did one of the door speakers. No wonder they sounded so bad! Time to trash those. The two small door speakers are all plastic, and the ones from the rear look ok. But, I will try testing them, just to make sure.
    Thanks for the ideas.
