    if the coolant is way down?

    heater core is air-bound.

    I've not read any reports of heater core failure on any of four BMW/E39 forums. Perhaps it's better-made than the radiator.

    To bad you moved SO FAR away, you could have (m

    brought it over. Let me guess, you forgot to tighten the expansion tank cap.....I did that once. Got to Bridgewater and saw steam. At first I was sure it was coming from the car in front of me until my temp gauge started to rise. The supermarket was next to me so I picked up a few gallons of distilled and was on my way.

    Alright...you got me, it was the cap but the ....

    funny thing was, saw the steam behind me but the temp guage never moved and now I have no heat.
