2011 started off with a bang!
Literally. >_<
It was snowing yesterday...just enough to lay down a thin layer of ball bearings on the roads. I had ZERO traction trying to stop going down a hill and slid all the way to the bottom, where there was a car stopped at the stop sign. I swerved to avoid plowing into him and slid into the intersection. The car coming from my left was unable to stop and slammed into me.
I'm not hurt and there is no obvious structural damage, but the rear fender and tailight are toast, and the trunk won't close. I'm relieved it wasn't worse.
The paradox is that although this happened to the Lexus and not the 530, in a way the reverse would have been better. It leaves me without a snow car and it's gonna snow again this week.

...528 was probably the best "winter" vehicle (if you want to call it that) of all my cars, except for my '77 Eldorado ;)

I like the Corvairs...
...Man, I would love to get one with a 455 Olds big block thrown in the back. Now that would make for some serious "tail waggin'" fun. Snow or no snow.

Wow! Glad you're OK!
Same sorta think happened to a friend on New Year's Day. She plowed into the back of a suburban. Lots of damage to her little box car, thingy she drives.

Nice to see there is more than one sick guy here(m
besides me. A 455 would be insane in that car, sounds like something I would do!
My Dad had a Corvair Monza. I washed and waxed it every weekend until I was old enough to get my license and drive it.
A guy I use to work with in CA put a Chevy 327 with a solid lifter cam in his. Even with a plexiglas panel behind the front seats that thing was loud. It really handled well with the mid engine setup.

Re: 1992 ES 300 with a 5 speed
FWIW, our 530i 5spd is incredibly good in snow with Dunlop Winter Sports D3's on it. I decided to try the General Altimax Arctics on the 540iT and honestly wish I would have put the Dunlops on. The Generals are ok, but the Dunlops are significantly better. YMMV, my opinion

I bet it was his LCM.
I caught mine right when it lit up, The combination of salted roads and a leaky sunroof drain pipe on the pass. front.
This video gave me flashbacks with the weather conditions and all the lights bugging out.

Re: Nice to see there is more than one sick guy here(m
I, then (three years later) my brother, then (another three years later) my sister learned to drive in my Mom's '64 Corvair Sedan. Over the course of more than two dozen years, that car survived three teenaged drivers and a couple of relatively major mechanical (and driver) failures up until the late 80's. I remember, after my brother wiped out the left front corner of the car, going to the junk yard (that's what they were called back then) with my Dad and picking up the sheet metal then rebuilding that mess.
Ralph Nader ("Unsafe at any Speed") and some idiot drivers killed that car.
