Power cuts out upon starting! And other problems

    Greetings all,

My dadís 2000 740iL just started manifesting some strange electrical problems: once in a while, the car will completely die when the key is moved into the starting position. Completely die, as in no power to anything. 5-10 seconds later, the power returns and the car is able to be started, but the seat memory module forgets all its settings.

After a few botched startups like that, the front right speaker has also begun emitting a constant, loud buzzing noise, even when the radio is off. Changing the audio system balance does nothing to relieve the noise.

I was thinking this could be the ignition switch, but I am told that opening the passenger visor mirror has no effect. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks!

The ignition switch can cause all sorts of gremlin

problems. They are not expensive and are easy to change. That MIGHT be a problem. There is probably a write up on e39.org.
