    acceleration problems

My 2001 318i BMW has suddenly developed an acceleration problem. There are no warning lights & my local BMW dealer couldn't be specific either after paying over 100, they wanted another 114 odd to investigate it further but I wasn't willing to spend over 200 just to diagnose the problem, so I'm now at a dead end. The engine is running smoothly, it's not missing or spluttering or anything like that but there's just no guts in it. I'm still driving around in it but slowly (especially up hills). Where as before, I'd put my foot down & have almost instant power, now there's no umph there, the only way I pick up a good speed is downhill or gradually on a flat road. I've changed the MAF sensor & got it serviced but still no difference. Please Help, Louise x
