I believe it. People hoping technology has caught

up to the dreams of the designers.

i've got an engine design myself

    - got a patent on it in '97, been trying to raise funding ever since. it's tough. but even my design is a combination of 3 technologies that have been around for a century now. the unique thing is combining the three which at least on paper should produce a diesel that has power density of modern motorcycle 4-strokes and efficiency of a large container ship (50%). i 'only' need $1M to get it to a running prototype.

maybe if all the loungers searched their couch cushions for loose change...

Im not sure I understand completely how it works

I get the double ended piston thing but not the high/low pressure areas and what the 6 tubes are doing.

it's all a matter of perspective

and from where I'm looking, you're definitely rich. I've said it before - I live my life vicariously thru you =). I'm sure you've got the same thing going on with someone else higher in the food chain.

    used to be... :)

there was a point in my life when i was averaging $1k/hr and doing ok working 5 hrs/week. i had a house in oregon and apartment with garage in socal, with several vehicles in each place. yeah, back then i thought i was comfortable, if not exactly 'rich'.

then i decided to stop doing electronics and just design/build cars full time. now the only thing i have is our share of the company. EVERYTHING i had went into the business. i sold the house to an investor some years ago (still renting it from him), all the bikes and personal cars are gone, etc. the company is bringing in just enough net to cover overhead and nothing more and every month is still a challenge. i'm working 50-60 hours a week now, taking out only enough for groceries and rent.

we're growing revenues steadily with custom parts sales and consulting projects. but we need to get our own cars out there before i can breathe a little easier again. i'm very fortunate that M is not only ok with all this but is also doing her part in the biz.

so at the moment i'm only rich in experience and potential :) if/when the money is there again it will be hard earned. absolutely no regrets though and i'd do it all over again.

if you look up 'split cycle' engines it'll help

my engine is essentially a barrel-packaged split-cycle design. those are two of the technologies, both have been around since early 1900. each has benefits and drawbacks. the drawbacks have been enough to prevent mainstream acceptance of each technology separately because it's not enough of a gain over conventional designs. my solution (also combining these with a third proven technology) at least on paper promises 'greater than the sum of its parts' performance. we'll see.
