Re: Some choices at this point
Cr@ppy wheels but a great car. the 330 is a perfect all around ride and the 4 door is suitable for a family man such as yourself. See if he has the oe wheels, they are nice.
I remember T used to always respond as "Manuel Transmissione" every time someone mispelled that lol.

found an interesting option...
This place is sending me pictures tomorrow of an 01 330xi with only 57k miles on it. He's selling it for under $9k which is what most of these cars run with 100k miles on it. Apparently the car was in a minor front end accident and needed a new headlight or something and bumper(we'll see). The shop selling it specializes in BMW and Merc. The guy said he has been a BMW tech for 20 years and he drove the car for a while after the repairs and it's perfect. (I know...)
If the pictures look OK - I think I'll send an independent inspector to look at it. The guys said he would be happy to put it up on the lift for him. The lower miles is very appealing to me and as long as there isn't anything major, I can deal with a minor accident repair. If the title is clean, I think this is a contender.
Anyone know a mechanic in Baltimore?======================================== =================

salvage title... of course...
Shop owner (20 yr mechanic) said he couldn't understand why the called it totaled when it mostly headlights and a bumper.
How fast should I run from a Salvage title?
If I get it inspected, is it safe?
I realize I'll not get as much for the car when I sell it also, but I'm getting a bargain on the front end as well if it all checks out mechanically.===================================== ====================

you're looking too new...
I'm trying to stay under 10k.
2001-2003 is my target really. I like the nose of the 2002 and 2003 better with the round fogs, but really I just loved the handling of the smaller car than the E39 and quickness of the 330 engine.
My mechanic up here is Voit Ritch who apparently is very well known nationally among BMW repair shops and he gave me the name of the best BMW shop in Baltimore. I may have them inspect it. If they say the car is sound, it might make sense. It may be my only chance to get into a car with fewer than 90k miles... which would put me right where I am now in a bad mileage window for repair costs.
The car in NJ is still in the mix, though. Seems like about the best deal I will find on a clean title...
2002 330xi 85k miles $9k.
I also don't think I have the luxury of patience. The metal backing plates (?) on my rear hubs are shot. Apparently the fix includes new hubs, rotors and brakes. It's about $1k to fix. They put a band-aid on it. It could fail very soon. I need to trade this sucker in a hurry.============================================ =============
