Born lucky
A cold morning here in Connecticut, heading to my squash match in my 98 528i and, ah, the heat starts to go away.
So I watched the temperature gage and soon enough it heads towards the red. I stopped and found that the hose from the bottom of the overflow tank had come off.
I let it all cool down, added the gallon of juice that I carry in the trunk, bled the air out of it and lived happily ever after.
Tomorrow I will add a second clamp to that hose.

Re: Sounds more like you were born smart...
Ed, Last time I installed the hose clamp at the bottom of the tank, did not locate it properly, that is it was squeezing the hose around the end of the pipe which is not the correct location. Ah, bad. Need a better mechanic.
Am in New Canaan, are you nearby?

Re: Sounds more like you were born smart...
I just did some work on mine, too. I will have to double-check my work now! If I remember correctly, it's a tight fit onto the tank outlet, plus there's a couple of other nub-type things on the tank bottom that get in the way of pushing the hose fully seated.
I'm in Cheshire.

......j/k ya, I knew (and hoped, lol) you were kidding and also the you too carry a bit of the magic fluid (along with liter water bottles for drinking I carry in the car, plus the gallon of rad fluid in the back, I could replace about 7-8 liters if necessary)

LOL. Oh No. When I realized how that...
...may be taken, I thought, "OH S#iT!" I need to remember the rad juice is for the car and not for refreshment. :O
