I Fear the (St)ealer
Sunday the car idle was wacky. Figured I just washed it and maybe some water got in somewhere and it would dry out and I could deal with it Monday after work if it continued. Car ran like turd to and from work- (stalled, check engine light came on, idle rough). Code reader stated O2 sensor limit reached. Figured I’d take it to my local guy and he’d change the O2 sensors today and problem solved. Nope. He calls me at noon and says code is pointing more towards a vacuum leak that is tripping O2 sensor but he cannot find one. He through an O2 sensor on – no fix. He says I have to take it to the dealer. OUCH-!!! At least my guy didn’t charge me for all the time he spent trying to figure it out.
Anyone have any ideas-?

3 areas
Assuming it's a 6 cylinder, 3 are the areas to check in sequence
1) the rubber intake booth: right where it branches to go to the ICV
2) the DISA
2) the PCV plumbing
PS: if you're mechanic really changed the O2 sensor because of that code, I would suggest you change mechanic since he's not a good one. I understand if one of use changes O2 sensors because the error code mention it, but someone who claims to be a profession to do such a mistake is amateur...

Re: 3 areas
My mechanic only swapped the O2 because he was at a loss and had me calling hourly saying why not O2? I figured 80K miles, 13 years old - why not. His guy spent a good amount of time and he said I didn't fix so no charge. My dealer had no time today so I looked again.
Oil cap was on loose. Seem to have fixed it.
Wahoo. The vacuum leak. My mechanic was on the right path.
