Can someone do me a favor and take a look at this auction, it says it fits e36 but the numbers don't jive, look at sellers cross ref and it works???

If you go to RealOEM for E36 (sedan only) under restraint system and accessories, the number for the ski bag is the same as in the ebay auction. Not sure what you're saying: What doesn't jive with what?

I have never owned a BMW cabrio, so I don't know how the rear seats and supporting sheet metal structure differ from the sedans. I am not too surprised that they are different though, considering the folding top tucks behind those seats.

On E39's, the fold down rear seat was a fairly rare option and came with the ski bag. There were a few inquiries on the RF board about what it would take to install the ski bag in an E39 without fold-down seats. Replies pointed out the solid, one-piece upright and the requirement to saw a hole through that.
