when I have both front wheel lifted off the ground, I can move the wheels side to side maybe an inch before the steering shaft moves. When the wheels are on the ground and load bearing, there is no play. (I have adjusted the steering box) The play comes from the movement of the pittman arm as it slides up and down the shaft it is attached to. This shaft comes from the steering box. This allows many of the other parts of the suspensions system to move around

Is there supposed to be a bushing on this shaft to keep the arm in place?? Is this normal? I cannot see any loose bolts, but there is a gap between the Pittman arm and the top/bottom of the shaft. I assume the weight of the vehicle stablizes this. I am thinking this is intentional so when the car moves up and down over bumps and hills, there can be movement here.

Thanks for any tips.
