I think I might be buying one of these soon and

maybe one for E90. As much as I hate these cars, I have several friends/customers who asked me to work on these cars. I'm pleasantly surprised that Bentley issued manual for E60, considering the complexity of these cars.

I've recently worked on E90 and they have bunch of aluminum bolts that they have blue paint on them, meaning you can only torque them once and than you discard them. I wonder if that's BMW attempt to save the weight, or is it because of the magnesium/? block.

    I recently worked on 2 E90s and

It's difficult to believe it but they have even more useless plastic everywhere and very delicate plastic at that.

There are problems that you can easily address, make money and save your friends and customers money. It's the evap valve under the intake or more precisely the evapp tubing that vents back to the gas tank. It rubs against the steering mechanism developing a small hole. the part is 29.00 with a discount but guess how much the dealer wants and gets for the repair? 450.00 including the diagnostic fee. It takes less than 1 hr to repair with the new part. And comes with a band that goes around the new tube to attemt to stop the problem. I also added a cable tie get it even further out of harms way. If you need to do this let me know and I can fill you in on the shortcuts to get at it. Oh it does throw a code cant remember which one.

All the rest is pure income generation through the parts department I suppose.

The e90 seems to be as BMW wants them and you cant argue with success. And it seems the newer BMW drivers dont mind no dipsticks and having the engine completely covered by some kind of plastic either directly or indirectly.

Did you send that email to Chris Turley the new Pres? If not all the current info is on the local website.

Michael, thanks for the tip. Let me know I can

help you if you ever need it. You're right, E90 has a lot of cheap plastic and some engineering is questionable on it. I didn't get any response form the president and I've used the latest contact info.

Yup, when I was torquing them, I was kind a

nervous, even though it was the relatively low torque. They're very light and don't inspire too much confidence.
