Engine Service Light On
Hello there. I have a 325i and my engine service light came on. My car dealership where i bought the car a few months ago thinks it has to do with a "bolt". What the heck does that mean? They put the car under to see the codes. I, too, am a female new bmw owner of a used car. Any help would be great.

lemme guess.. it's really cold where you are?
I would guess that when a CE (Check Engine) light comes on in the dead of winter that it's an Oxygen Sensor. It's about as hard to change as a bolt. Except that it's under the car hidden by the exhaust is usually rusted stuck and has a wire off the back so you need a special wrench.
The simple solution is to bring it to a shop and have them 'read the code.' Heck, even autozone or just about any parts store will read the code for free. The come back here and tell us what they said caused the CE light.============================================ =============

Engine Service Light On ? ? ?
speak to the dealer again - and give us a intellegent
replay of the cars dignosis - fault code read out.
Usually - a bad cooling thermostat during very cold weather
will be the cause - simple repair -
Get the clear and detailed description of what the technician
found - and get it fixed - now.

Yes very cold here in the state of Nebraska. Just received a call from mechanic and it appears the air pump to the motor needs to be replaced. Ordering parts and hopefully will have it back Friday. The dealer is paying since i have a standard warranty on it. Any idea on the cost here? He just says "its not cheap".
