With the demise of my beloved E39 I looked far and wide for a similar car or E46 ZHP. There was always "somethin'" with the cars that prevented closing a deal. Expanded to CPO E92, still always Not Quite Right.
So, a Sapphire Black on Saddle Brown E92 is in the works. M-sport, PP, Heated seats (my wife's car has spoiled me), H-K radio (significantly better than stock). Manual trans of course. Probably go with a performance center delivery, not that far up the road and it looks like fun.
I've been cruising the boards, and these folks actually work on their cars (Unlike E60 crowd). Most of the normal maintenance is doable, although changing plugs is a two-hour ordeal rather than 20 minutes.
I'll continue to lurk about here ... it's a good group ... but my efforts will be channeled elsewhere.

328i ...
Didn't want the complexity and issues of the 335i. Power is nice ... sometimes (my son has a E60 550i 6sp AND a Merc E55 AMG), but not most of the time. And a bit better smileage as gas gets well over $3/gal.
It'll perform just fine with the 6sp manual box, be more maintainable, and costs about 6K less. I'm more into handling than pure grunt anyway and with M-sport it'll be just fine. Esp with summer non-RFT tires.
Our dealer had a 328i and 335i conv loaded at 57K and 63K respectively ... UGGGHHH! For a 3-series?
I looked at and drove the F10. Nice bahnburner, but more a mini-7 than a luxo-3 (which I think the E39 was ... remarkable combination of luxury and sports sedan qualities). Big; adequate to great power, and far removed from the ultimate driving experience. A Lexus fighter and a bit of the BMW soul was missing. The 3 series still seems to manage to be keeper of the flame. So ... that's the way I went.

I'll probably do something similar (m)
When my 540 is spent, hopefully it won't be anytime soon. I stopped by the dealer today to see if I could get a rubber boot for the upper rear wishbone ball joint...not sold seperately.
They had a very nice Alpina B7 on the floor, only $128K. My pockets aren't that deep, but it was nice to look at. It's a big car, too big for me.
Report back when you get it, can't go wrong with the 6 speed. Clutches are more reliable than automatics.

328 - congrats, please review for us
Very nice. Please report back when you have had a chance to drive it and get familiar with it. I'd almost surely make a similar choice if I needed to replace my 530i, a 328 with manual trans (of course!). And I agree, the new F10 is a huge luxo-barge. At least it's not an abomination like the Gran Turismo or the X6.

No, but I did ask the salesman (a friend) if we (m
could take it for a test drive yesterday. He said he didn't want to even sit in it, I think they were only alotted on B7 and didn't want to take any chances of anything happening to it. Now if I had a wad of $1K bills hanging out of my pockets maybe that would have changed things.
IIRC I test drove the 550i and 535d.
