    Leaking fuel tank

Please could someone help me diagnose where my fuel tank is leaking from! I have a 1999 e39 528i exec auto. I was dumb enough to let a "supposed" BMW expert work on my car. I got it back with so many problems, I'm still paying to sort them out.

However now I cannot put more than a 3rd of a tank of fuel in and it starts leaking all over the floor at the petrol station.

Someone mentioned to me that it could be a seal on one of the floats. Is that correct and how difficult is it to sort out? Also is the tank metal or plastic?

    Re: Leaking fuel tank

The E39 tank is plastic. Mine got impaled in the interstate once. $1,500 to replace at an independent BMW mechanic. They need to drop the exhaust and driveshaft to replace it. Maybe a little epoxy would do the trick if you have a small leak, however.
