friend wants to buy a car....

    must be a high-end 4-door.

He's considering Panamera, Maserati, M5 or Rapide.

What car would you pick and why?

New M5 is going to be a beast.

Rapids second, Maser, and then 'Mera.

M5 has looks and power, second 2 have looks and style with decent power, and last one has power and traction (if you get the turbo) but is really not attractive.

    Rapide, no question

That car is sweet. I'd trade your liver for one.

At $200k+, the Rapide is a different level...

...but I'd still take one of the Germans. As ugly as the Panamera is, it does drive wonderfully, especially the Turbo, and with the hatchback and AWD, it is practical as well.

I would wait to check out the M5, though. I like the F10 a lot.

    M5 or Rapide.

    M5 - brand loyalty
Rapide - It's an Aston, for chrissake!!!

I wouldn't touch the Panamera - It's one fugly car!! Hubby's business associate has one and it looks worse in real life than in pics. It makes my E60 look beautiful......

    M5 or Panamera

M5 will be nice even though I think the F10 looks chubby. A P Turbo is a beast, wicked fast. The looks don't bother me as much after having driven one. Just get it in black w/ 20% tint and anthracite wheels...

Re: New M5 is going to be a beast.

BMW is also focused on reducing the weight in the next M5. Though weight reduction is a challenge, every little bit helps.

If the M5 handles better than the Panamera...

...that will be very impressive. But given that the current 550i weighs a bit more than the Panamera Turbo, with a much higher center of gravity, I will be surprised if it does.

It is sure to look better, though, and that would probably be enough for me.
