Just another reason why Apple SUCKS
So the new OS for iPad came out today. When Microsoft releases a new OS, you're sort of worried because you know there are going to be a lot of new things to learn.
When Apple releases a new OS, it's because they added a software setting for the switch on the side of the device. You know - the switch that used to tell iPad whether to lock the orientation to portrait or landscape.
[NB: during the LAST new OS update, the genuises at Apple decided to change the operation of this switch without telling anyone. Apparently they pissed so many people off that they had to do something to return desired functionality... but I digress].
So I hook the 'Pad up to my PC, and iTunes opens as usual. But now it wants to update itself... for maybe the third time in two months. And AppleIdiots complain that Microsoft puts out too many updates... So I click "Update iTunes" and it goes through its paces.
Then I have to restart my PC. Because iTunes was updated. WTF?
So, now I'm ready to update the OS on my iPad, right? Wrong. Because I've purchased some apps using the iPad (instead of using the PC/iTunes and THEN transferring to the 'Pad...), I first must transfer those purchases to iTunes on the PC. So I tell it to do so. BUT.... first I must log in to iTunes (on the PC). I do so. Then I'm told this PC isn't "authorized" for these apps. Which is strange, because this is the only PC I've ever connected the iPad to.
So I tell iTunes to "authorize" this PC. Next, I'm told "Authorization successful. You have authorized five of five computers to work with this iPad." WTF???? FIVE computers authorized? So I use iTunes to deselect ALL computers, thinking I will re-authorize this one again. But I can't do that. Because Apple says "you can only de-authorize all computers once per year, and you must wait until February 25, 2011 to do so."
Which is really PHOCKING WEIRD because I didn't even OWN this iPad a year ago, and prior to purchasing it, I never used iTunes.
Anyway... I tell iTunes to update my iPad with this great new OS that restores desired operation of the side switch thingy.
All of this appears to go as planned. The update completes, but iTunes doesn't see the iPad after it restarts. So I close/open iTunes and there is the iPad.
But.... I get a message saying "This iPad is synced to another iTunes library. You can only be synced to one library at a time. Sync now?"
Well that's PHOCKING iWEIRD too, since I don't HAVE any other libraries... except the one that existed prior to the update. So apparently this is a "creative" message: what it should have said was something like
<i>"SURPRISE YOU DUMB BASTARD!!! As part of the new OS update (which restores operation of that side-switch thingy), you now have to re-sync all 10GB of your library. You are one stupid iPhock!"</i>
Just another (10 or 12) reason(s) why Apple is the biggest phocking joke on the planet.
I HATE YOU STEVE JOBS, BUT I'LL PROBABLY *STILL* BUY ONE OF YOUR iPHOCKING iPHONES, YOU iD!CK.<br />

WhyTF would you buy an iPhone?
Android OS FTW. With an iPhone, you can't:
1. Connect via USB and use as portable hard drive
2. Manage your music library without the intervention of POS iTunes
3. Expand the memory
4. Assign different signatures to multiple email accounts (yup, you still can't do that with iOS).
5. Think for yourself.
6. Easily unlock device and install alternative OS versions, many of which include the ability to turn the device into a mobile hotspot without having to pay a bunch extra to your wireless carrier.

I agree with ALL of those things
Plus, you left out Call Quality.
But the fact remains... the Apple GUI is the best/fastest/most intuitive. Which is what I'm after, given the way I use my phone.
As for your specific list of features...
1. WGAF? I carry a 32GB jump drive that fits in my wallet. Why would I want to use my phone as a HDD?
2. This would certainly be a bonus, but I just don't listen to enough music on my phone to warrant a purchase decision based on that.
3. Again, WGAF? Not important to me.
4. Nice, but not a gotta-have.
5. This is sort of what my original post was about in the first place.
6. Nice, but not a gotta-have. And if it was, I'm sure someone out there has the same solution available for the iPhone, no? Hence your inclusion of the word "easily."
Question for you - do you have an iPod?<br />

Re: I agree with ALL of those things
Disagree about the GUI. I have an iPad, my wife has an iPhone, and I have a Nexus Samsung S (featuring the "pure" Android OS, unencumbered by hardware manufacturer bloatware). I use the Samsung S for every computer task at home except for reading the WSJ (I use the iPad WSJ app for that).
The Android GUI is unbelievably customizable, and there's a world of widgets which you can use to enhance the experience. I installed homescreen widgets for time/weather, SMS, Facebook, Twitter, and music player. 90% of what I do on the phone (which includes those widgets plus email and web browsing) is fewer than two presses or swipes away from wherever I am when I wake up the phone.
Here's a very long thread at XDA Developers with lots of screenshots that will give you a glimpse into the GUI customization you can do on an Android device.
iPhone4 is already 8 months old and doesn't function on the Verizon LTE network. Are you thinking of waiting for the iPhone5?
If I were a prospective Verizon phone buyer at this time, I'd wait until I could get a phone that has a dual-core processor, LTE-connectivity, and Android 2.3 (I think Nexus S is only current phone with 2.3, but is TMobile only and doesn't have 4G/LTE connectivity). The HTC Thunderbolt, supposedly out next week, is close to fitting that bill, but includes only Android 2.2. Probably not a big deal, as I think HTC is good at pushing out updates.
