Marijuana: Thoughts?
As the entire country seems to be relaxing its opinions of marijuana, I was curious to hear everyone's opinions.
1) Better/worse/same as alcohol?
2) Taking a hit or two the same as having a glass of wine or two?
3) If legal, would you use it?
4) If legal, would you prefer it to alcohol?
5) Negative effects the same/worse/different than alcohol?

about the same as alcohol on all levels...
...although with differences. a heavy pothead is probably preferable to a serious alcoholic, whereas a moderate drinker is preferable to a moderate stoner.
disclaimer: I bat on the wine/beer team with only very occasional excursions into other recreational drugs and never take drugs to "enhance experiences": fun is plenty of fun as is.

Re: Marijuana: Thoughts?
1. It can't be same...probably be better if most circumstances equal. Rather be sharing the road or working with a stoner than a drunk any day.
2. Nope...not even close if we're talking the same [Oops!] I used to smoke.
3. Maybe
4. Absolutely, since I don't drink anymore.
5. Alcohol much worse unless you don't pay your supplier and you get capped. I'm sure peeps would be MUCH MORE LIKELY to show up for work high than drunk...and snacking a lot more.

Follow-up....(damned enter key)
1) Better/worse/same as alcohol?
Depends on how you want to look at it. On the one hand, pot doesn't have many of the downsides as alcohol (i.e. it doesn't cause people to become violent like alcohol does some, it's not going to cause you to not be able to drive a car, etc). But it can indirectly cause you to gain a few pounds (mmm...cookies...cheetos) and as some of us have found out the hard way, a very major player in throat cancer.
2) Taking a hit or two the same as having a glass of wine or two?
If you get the good stuff, a couple of tokes will make you feel much better IMHO than one glass of wine.
3) If legal, would you use it?
I don't know anymore. I'd guess no, but not because of moral reasons. (see #1)
4) If legal, would you prefer it to alcohol?
Oh hell yea. (but see #1 again)
5) Negative effects the same/worse/different than alcohol?
Again, see #1. So alcohol can kill your liver or behind the wheel. Pot can give you cancer. I guess you can choose your own poison.
Certainly not saying alcohol affects everybody the same way, as obviously it doesn't. But since you didn't add the "drinks responsibly" part I'm having to go with worse case scenario. As far as pot, certainly everybody that smokes isn't going to get throat or lung cancer either, but now I look back and can't help but wonder if it was worth it.
Not to mention I can't remember a lot of good times all that clearly anymore. lol

I'd say close to the same, but I'm definitely
aware of the stigma being far worse for pot and that gives it a worse "feel". Also because of legality, obtaining pot generally means obtaining it through suspect means.
I don't think dope is a big deal at all. That being said, when my kids get older, I'd be OK with them drinking, but be very concerned about them smoking dope....or cigarettes for that matter.

Re: Marijuana: Thoughts?
1) Better/worse/same as alcohol?
Depends, balances of thc to canabinals need to be monitored for
reducing psychological effects.
2) Taking a hit or two the same as having a glass of wine or two?
More like a couple of hits equal to drinking a bottle
3) If legal, would you use it?
Seldom
4) If legal, would you prefer it to alcohol?
No
5) Negative effects the same/worse/different than alcohol?
different, see 1, dosage problems compared to alcohol

Should be legal.............
Maybe kids wouldn't consume as much alcohol....just more munchies.
I enjoyed it in college but the last time I tried it for my shoulder pain years ago, it made me sick to my stomach plus dizzy as hell. I really felt and acted stupid (no one noticed). The new grade of marijuana is potent compared to the stuff of the '60's.
Back in the '60's it had the effect on me that when I drove, I drove about 30 in a 50 zone, so it might keep people from killing themselves.
I must say that I never got a better night's sleep after smoking the stuff.

If I was more active as a musician
I would likely want to use once a week to enhance creativity. I feel everything would have to be recorded to verify quality. This effect pot has with music is very interesting to me and wonder if it could be harnessed better. I could noodle on bass for hours without really having something repeatable for performance.
