Yeah, they're only supposed to run a little bit...

Didn't I tell you to go circuit-by-circuit and find where the power went? :-)

We run our pump in the morning before we get up and in the evening at dinnertime. On a timer. There are also demand-based timers, where you put a little doorbell button near the shower that runs the pump for a few minutes, but you need to run the wiring.

No natural gas in FL? Gas heaters are generally way cheaper to run.

    Yes...yes you did.

But I really didn't expect that thing could use so much power, so I didn't even look at it.

There is natural gas but it's a separate bill (FPL only does electric). The gas is only for the range, outdoor grill, and pool heater...everything else is electric.

I went back through and realized...

My power bill has actually averaged $620/month over the last yr...that's $7500/yr for just electric (gas is separate). I went to AskCharlieSheen.com and he said I should turn off my recirculating pump and use the money on drugs and hookers.

Got natural gas plumbed to your water heater location? Dunno about FL, but here in Texas it's cheaper to use gas for heat than electricity. Of course just using a timer on that pump would probably do the trick.

Yeah I just unplugged the pump and my usage plummeted. I went from around 110-130 kwhr/d (and a peak of 200+ last Sept) to a low of 30 and an average of around 40.
