Dying rear parcel shelf back to black

Anyone ever had to dye their sun beaten rear parcel shelf. Mine is physically in great condition but since the PO was in Southern California it has turned purple from the heat.

I'll be replacing my suspension this weekend so I thought I'd tackle that project whilst it's out.

I appreciate all ideas.

Go ahead and do it. I dyed my grey parcel shelf black over 8 years ago when replacing the suspension using 2 spray cans of black dye from the local Auto shop. The end result looked good then and still does now.

What does this dye which comes in a spray can look like? Never seen any such thing at any auto parts shop around here. (Of course, Canadian auto parts shops are known for sucking)

I believe it was VHT penetrating dye as opposed to their vinyl dye product

I found this website with Canadian dollars (http://www.softys.ca/chemicals/vht/penetrating_dye.html) - the can graphics may be different but the labelling is about right

I bought it from Repco (a legendary Australian Auto Parts chain of stores)
