you need a reset tool, there is no trick like with oil reset with a wire.
I have the SIR3 reset tool available for sale. All in one tool for Airbag/SRS/Oil/Inspection/Annual inspection reset.
This works on all BMW from 1987-2003 with the round 20-pin diagnosis box. Note that the Peake airbag tool does not function on E32, only from E38 from 1994 on.
Of course the reset only works if the fault has been repaired, unless you just have removed the steering wheel without disconnecting the battery, which is in most of the cases the fault.

Got new BOA tool on stock. Airbag / SRS Light/Service/Oil Reset Tool - all in 1 tool
    Contact me by PM
    http://produkte.bilder-speicher.de/1...erviceoil.html
works on BMW from 1987 (most other tools on the market only work for models from 1994/5) up to built year 03/2006 and Mini from 2001,Rover from 2001. Does NOT work on BMW with Conditioned Based Service / CBS.
Conditional Based Service (CBS) is an evolution of BMW’s standard service indicator system (SIA) previously fitted across the model range. It was first introduced in 2002 when the ‘new’ 7’ series model was launched and is now a standard feature on the following models: 1’ Series E87 (2004 on), 3’ Series E90/91 (2004 on), 5’ Series E60/61 (2003 on), 6’ Series E63/64 (2004 on), 7’ Series E65/66 (2002 on), (This info is based on USA spec, varies by country spec.)
For owners of various BMW with the old 20-pin round plug and also the OBDII plug.
Note: the SRS system on your BMW needs to be functioning properly in order to reset the airbag/SRS light. If the system detects a fault on any of the systems sensors a reset without replacement/repair of those failed components is not possible. The unit does not scan faults, it resets the warning light. Comes with complete instructions.
Special note for cars which have 20-pin + OBDII connectors:
In case you have a car with the round 20-pin diagnostic connector in the engine bay and a OBDII connector near the steering wheel, then use that 20-pin connector in the engine bay for airbag/srs. The OBDII connector under the dash only works for EPA required pollution diagnostics. BMW later made the OBDII connector work for every diagnostic and eliminated the round connector.

Hi Ricky, I sent you a PM with the paypal details.
Nowadays the BOA is sold more as it covers a wider range of cars, BMW from 1987-2006 (excluding cars with CDS = condition based service), plus Mini and Rover from 2001. It can be connected to the 20-pin round plug as well as the OBDII plug. Details here which explains it

All SIR3 as well as the BOA srs reset tools are sold meanwhile, also the maker does not have stock anymore, and a new production series is too much for me, they are asking for a min. production number of more than 300 pieces, that is too much for me a risk
