Power Drivers seat/Steering wheel don't work????

My mechanic says the switch on the seat is bad, but can't figure out why that would keep the steering wheel from moving up and down? Is there anyway to check the switch or check power to the seat? Still can't figure out how the power to the steering wheel it tied to the seat?
Help, before I drive this thing off a cliff.
    Thanx

What year is the car? Probably need to go the the WDS and research the wiring diagrams. Try the spagetti web site if you don't have access to the WDS DVD.

It is the seat control module under your seat. The drivers side module is tied into the steering wheel and memory switches on the door. Is is possible that the harness just came loose also. This is very common.

I guarantee its a loose harness. My wifes E39 does it ALL the time. Slide your hand down where the switch is to move seat back and forth and find the harness. Push it back in with your hand and it should work again.

If the harness plug is tight, lok at the fuse in the engine compartment fuse box...the same fuse controls the driver seat, memory and steering wheel....I believe the mirror memory set too.

Hey dial944, did you ever get this problem fixed, drive it off a cliff, or sell the car to me here is AZ?

I was fussing with the broken cable on the glove box, when I heard the buzz of an electric motor. Got the glove box operable, but now the seat and steering wheel do not adjust. %&#$@

Checked all fuses and looked for loose connections to not avail. Any ideas - please ??

for some reason these two parts of the car effect each other. someone sat down too hard in my driver seat and broke the trim ring. the switch came loose and that shut down the tilt wheel and the power seats. Like Christmas lights! Just repair the switch and the tilt wheel will start working. Also they are both o the same fuse, so check that as the simple option

I had weird power problems two years ago, impacted the door locks and the alarm. turned out to be the ignition switch. didn't make sense but that worked

    hope this helps
