E-39 vs. E-60: Looking for Advice Here

Have a 2000 528i Sport with 225,000 miles on the clock. Still running most of the original accessories (P/S pump, A/C compressor, starter, etc.) and soon to need to rebuild the rear suspension - starting to get those noises that suggest the bushings are failing. Clutch has 120,000 miles on it and will need to be replaced within 50,000 miles. So I'm probably facing $7,000 of foreseeable cost ahead.

I would appreciate the comments of anyone in the forum who has made the switch from the E-39 to the E-60. I am thinking about selling the car and looking for a low mileage 2008/2009 E-60. But I understand from TechTalk at Roundel that the maintenance issues on the newer cars are perhaps harder to deal with than what I have now. And the costs are likely higher.

Somebody give me the benefit of your experience and help me make this decision.

    Thanks.

Hello mhardey. I was the proud owner of an E39 540 with 250k on the odo. I sold the car (to my brother. Now at 340k miles) and took over my wire's E46 330 now with 184 on the odo. Like you, I came to a crossroads with the 330 where I was going to have to spend $4k to have it repaired so I opted to sell it. I take possession of my new 2008 550 on Thursday, I hope.

I drove several. From i can tell youth E60 is lighter on it's feet. Much more tech stiff (Idrive) is faster (especially if your moving up to a 535). if you not in a hurry, I'll post another update next week after I have had the car for a few days and give younsome more insights.
