Heavy/Tension Spring on rear brake drums

How do you get those suckers on? I can get the two ends into the holes on the shoes, but trying to get the middle up and over behind the anchor has been a real hair puller. Is there some zen master way on doing this or is it just a case of brute force?

Brute force - I put a screwdriver on the notch and pushed it up with a floor jack
