XK8 1999 Coupe..... VVT Solenoid or knock sensor?
hi all
XK8 1999 Coupe
when i'm driving at low speed and the car is high gear (4th gear), i seem to be getting a rattling noise coming from the engine when i'm gently accelerating. the noise can be best described as 'pinging'. i'm using high octane fuel (premium). the guides and tensioners have been replaced. no error codes at the present time. i've been pointed towards the VVT solenoid or the knock sensors. would these cause this noise if they were faulty? or, what symptoms would be noticable if either the VVT solenoid or knock sensor was faulty?
many thanks in advance for your input
tariq

125,000 miles
latest generation (4th i think, if not then 3rd generation) ,primery and secondary tensioners guides and chains
the 'pinging' niose can be best described as when on older cars (with carburetters), when the timing was out and therefore they would make a rattling noise which was known as pinging.
thanks
