    Alarm

    Hey all,

I just picked up a 2001 M Coupe. Pretty freaking stoked on it!

Anyhow, it does not have an alarm/keyless entry, to my knowledge. I see that the OEM alarm is pretty hard to come by. Any advice on a good unit that installs with all the pre-wiring like the OEM unit? (Or anyone know of an OEM unit for sale?)

    Thanks,

    Dave

    Install Photos

I installed one in my M Roadster, a 1999 model.

    See:

I know that somewhere along the line, BMW switched to a different keyless entry system, that uses the buttons on the key itself, instead of a fob. I know the E46 and my X5 have this. It was around 2001, as I recall. Maybe your car has that system.

If your car takes the older system, BavAuto had the factory alarm/remote keyless entry as well as aftermarket (Vader? Zader? something) systems that were remote keyless entry or entry and alarm, that plugged into the existing harness.

It was not a hard install, but be careful with the glove box. They rattle as it is, and if you don't put it back together just so, well....

    Good luck.
