    Oilcheck reset

I use the bent copper wire to reset my oilcheck inspection lights but this time it doesn't work. Any clues to why?

    Thanks.

Thanks, I was afraid it might be something like that. This will be my third board since buying the car.

I found it easier to wire in a battery holder that I can get to without pulling the instruments. Makes fresh batteries a 5 minute job.

The instrument panel is pretty easy to remove and disassemble. If it's the first for you, just take notes as to wire/connector locations. The major units such as the speedometer and tach are easily pulled off and the SI board is mounted with a few screws. I was ready for the remote battery fix as recommended by this board and others, until I noted that the batteries were Lithium (CR14250SE) 3V units. (The previous owner had the SI board replaced and these batteries were inserted as a separate item at $79.00 a pair!). They were about $6.00 each. I took them over to a TV repair shop and the tech removed the old batteries soldered them onto the board for $40. If you opt for the remote, I'm sure the tech can do the same - however, you'll be operating at 3v instead of 6v. My set lasted 19 years.

    Perhaps an alternate reset method?

So instead of simple bridging of the reset with a peice of wire, what would happen if one were to apply a little current, say 3 - 6 volts?

I've never heard of applying some voltage. If all it did was fry an already bad SI reset circuit, then there'd be nothing to loose. However the temp gauge (and maybe other gauges) go through the board, so you might risk messing up some gauges, or at least have them not work right until you get a new board. Two working NiCad batteries supply about 2.4 volts, so if you do try this, then keep the voltage down, and let us know how it went.
