I know this will be a less than popular view, but I believe the problem here wasn't too many guns, but too few.
If the general population was packing, the odds of pulling off a massacre like that would be slim, 100+ people returning fire would have had stopped that immediately.
There is no other deterrent that works as well, cops need response time, disarming everyone only works if everyone cooperates, and the outlaws seem less prone to do this.
See prohibition, where what actually happened was much of the population joined the outlaws, rather than conform to what was viewed as an unjust law.

Back in the 1980's in Virginia Beach, somebody robbed a Fraternal Order of Police bingo game. He jumped up on the stage and declared "This a stick-up!" Three off-duty cops opened up on him.
There's a reason this ******* didn't decide to commit a massacre at a shooting range.
I'm waiting for the crime seen tape to come down and see if the theater declared itself a "gun free zone."
In Florida, businesses can forbid concealed weapons inside their businesses. Lowe's tried this, and it was a boone for Home Depot.Last edited by goatboy; 07-21-2012 at 03:46 PM.

I overnighted in a Holiday Inn in Jacksonville, FL about 15 years ago. I noticed a lot of Ford Crown Vic's in the parking lot, AND a lot of HOT women. There wasn't an night club nearby, either. They were all hookers.
When I checked out the next morning, I saw that the hotel has leased their convention facility out to a law enforcement training center. Cops on a business trip and high-end hookers, a match made in heaven.

The whole city of Aurora, not just the theater, is officially a "gun free zone."

So, another massacre in a "official gun free zone"...
Funny thing, I didn't see this tid-bit on any of the news reports.
