    Windshield wiper inserts discontinued

Found out today that BMW has discontinued their cheap replacement wiper plade insert for our cars. As I'm not aware of any aftermarket replacement blade that fits our silly E39 wiper arm attachment, that leaves only the complete OEM blade assembly at $60 a pair ($35 from online providers).

    WTF!!!!

Hmmmm ... I bought a pair of inserts last month, p/n 61-61-0-154-441, for $3.30 each. Where did you get your information?

I have not had good luck with any top-tier aftermarket inserts. They don't work nearly as well as OEM.

Got the info from the dealership. I got the last 4 inserts they had (paid 6.75 each).

I just bought 61618217711 inserts from RM European for $5.25. These are just the rubbers; no metal strips or plastic clips to hold them together during installation. They were out of stock on the 61-61-0-154-441 with strips; maybe that is another indication of that item being discontinued.

RockAuto sells Valeo set (800225, 800265) for $32 (with promo code). I'm almost inclined to pay that once a year for a convinience of switching the assembly in 30 sec. instead of added time and effort of replacing the inserts.

I just looked at the Rock Auto site and they have those part numbers for $12.64 each. Are they a direct replacement blade for the non-standard E39 clip on design? If so, that looks like the way to go.

According to several websites including RockAuto they are listed as direct fit. I'll probably try them myself.

This stinks. Time to make a run on all available inserts.
