gasoline odor problem with '71 Mini

There's a vapor line that comes off the fuel tank and dead ends under the car. It reeks of gasoline and the smell gets into the car if it sits too long. The carb has a nipple for sucking up tank vapors but I'd rather not run 12 feet of vapor hose under the car to replace the missing vapor line. Is there a simpler solution like a one way air valve that allows air into the tank to replace spent fuel but disallows fuel vapors from escaping and stinking up the car?
