Does going past the redline damage your engine while upshifting? 2004 320i

Hi Guys, I was in a real rush and not paying attention to my revs. So I accidentally went past the red line in first gear and it was like the car stalled or lost power momentarily, I immediately went into 2nd right after, but did I damage the engine at all? Do bmw's have a fuel cut off to protect against engine damage like a porche? Because that's what seems to have happened. Afterwards my car seemed fine? Thanks for your opinion guys. Cheers -Mike

You hit the rev limiter in the ignition module. It is there to keep you from damaging your engine. No worries.

Thanks for replying, you're the only one that did and it confirmed my online research that the rev limiter saved my engine and my pocket bo0k too, it's great to know bmw's have these safe guards though I have found in my research that almost all modern cars have these rev limiters. Thanks again -Mike
