Lock cylinder ? central locking system

    I just acquired a 1998 Z3 roadster 1.9 L

One of the issues is that the key (and the only one I received for the car) will not turn in the lock on the driver door.

Same key operates fine in the ignition, trunk and passenger door.

The remote is not locking either doors or the trunk lid.

What is likely the root cause of this issue?

    Thanks

Do you have a key fob or an after market keyless entry fob.

Try some lock lubricant in the drivers door lock & work it into the lock and if that does not help - maybe the lock cylinder is defective. As far as the remote fob - I would replace the battery in it and see if that could be the cause.

I have the OEM remote. The red LED illuminates when the button is pressed but no response from the car

I will try some WD 40. Is there a rebuild kit for the Z3 lock? As for the remote, it is O.E.M. and a red LED lights up when a button is pressed but no response from the car

    Options

Try this, on the driver side door on the car body is the 'Latch striker' for the door and right next to it there is the control micro-switch for the interior light and door lock mechanism, leave the door open and push and hold the micro-switch button in, while using your fob to lock door...if working lights will flash, pass door and trunk will lock.

Or, you will have to verify if the car has the keyless module unit by physically removing the passenger side lower trim panel from under the glove box. Sometimes the module antenna is cut or the module 12 pin plug is not connected.
