Re: Jackie Onassis 1974 BMW - Holy ****!

Is it just me, or is that like at $50,000 too much for that damn car. I just sold my super sweet '73 3.0 CS with a 3.5 L stroker motor, a brand new 5-speed and brand new suspension and paint. What the hell is the deal with this car. If anyone knows why it sold for $57,100 please let me know.
Regards,
Adam

    Re: Who Cares!

    Who Cares.
It is still an old Bav that isn't in the greatest shape. Come on. Anyone who would pay that kind of money for a bav is out of their mind, I don't care who it belonged to. Don't get me wrong, Bavs are sweet cars, not nearly as sweet as coupes, but I mean what would be the point of owning that Bav.

    The point is:

Owning a car that is related to a significant person in history and hoping that a bigger idiot will one day pay $100,000 to buy it.
Another reason would be as a publicity draw for a car museum. Look at what Hitler's Mercedes or Gary Cooper's MB sold for. Jackie "O" is not of this calibre, but close.
Bob

Who Cares.
It is still an old Bav that isn't in the greatest shape. Come on. $57K???

way too much money for that car.
mrs. onassis owned that car in the 70's. if she had owned it during her husband's presidency it would be one thing, but my guess is the fact that her posterior once graced the driver's seat won't add up to much, ultimately.
it's just become a "hot potato" for the new owner to try to flip to the next speculator.
a car like hitler's is significant and worthy of a museum because it was used during his most noteworthy years.
also, hitler's m-b was a helluva car that would be extremely valuable even if it weren't owned by hitler.
doug
'73 E9
P.S. i saw the 3.0S in question and it was nothing special. the ONLY thing special about it was the previous ownership.
