    Clogged fuel filter(s) symptoms

    Hello all,

    Just wanted to ask what the symptoms of clogged fuel filters are? My 94 seems to be a bit sluggish at lower RPMs. Just replaced plugs (Bosch Supers), air filter (Mahle), O2 sensors (Bosch), and ran a bottle of Techron and a bottle of Redline fuel system cleaner. Feels like its restricted somehow, so that leads me to think its the filters. From the Bentley, it appears to be a fairly easy job. Any other advice?

    If you can't remember when it was last changed, then just change it since it's a normal maintenance replacement item.

    Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember, from previous BMW's, when I had a fuel filter problem the classic symptom was when you step on the gas it cuts out.

    That sounds about right, it doesn't completely cut out, but it definitely stumbles. Until it gets to higher RPMs...

    I've got a couple on order from Patrick @ BMA, so I'll let everyone know how much of a difference they make.

    I would also check ....

    The Fuel Pressure regulator ...that plus into the back of the fuel rail..... i had bad gas that deposited water behind the diaphram and made it do they same thing you are describing ..... it was about 35-40 $$ .... it made a world of difference....kinda hard to get to ...but it was WELL worth the $$

    I just might do that... Maybe a variable one?

    Thanks! I didn't think to check that. If I don't see a significant improvement from the filters, I'll get one of those. I assume the Bentley covers R&R, right? Is there any advantage to getting one of those variable regulators then? Anyone?
