    87 AKI or 91 RON = North american 87 or 91?

    I imagine 87 octane because the manual says the 318is needs 95 RON, 95 octane does not exist in North America. I will run premium 91 regardless but I am asking because the previous owner of my 325IX was told by the dealer when she bought it new that premium was not neccessary only reccomended.

    I like Avi's idea....
    Passenger's seatbelt doesn't retract
    Hesitation between 1800 and 2100 RPM
    Burns a little oil on cold start
    Bad tachometer
    Bad speedometer
    Bad service indicator circuit
    Small ding on trunk lip
    Could use paint job
    Need a new shifter boot
    Need a new driver floormat
    Hmmm, that's it for now. That said, no real driveablitiy issues it's still good all the way to 6250 RPM.

    AKI=(RON+MON)/2

    Research octane (RON) is calculated from the formula for the gas. Motor Octane (MON) is measured using a 1cyl motor that is capable of varying its compression ratio. AKI is the average.

    We did it in biochem. I have a whole article about it, if anyone wants more.

    In the US, we use AKI

    which, as has already been posted, is the average of the research and motor octane numbers. AKI stands for Anti-Knock Index.
