Common - if there is a drop in voltage, the warning light comes on because it thinks a light is out. You might just need to get back there and clean/sand all the contacts to remove corrosion.
BTW, this area (the lounge) is more of off-topic posts, not repair help. You\'ll get more responses (probably) posting in the regular e28 room...<br><HR SIZE=1>

My E30 did this and so does my E28. The previous tip on cleaning is the best place to start and it is free. Also, make sure your grounds are clean. Also, I have read that non BMW bulbs will make the light come on. If all else fails go to the dealer and get BMW bulbs. I will be checking into all of this myself, but I have so many issues with my E28 it is at the bottom of the list.
