    Going from Auto to 5 speed

    On a 85 535i- I am sure someone has gone from the automatic trans to a manual 5 speed Right? Could you pass on your experience for this job ? Is it worth it? How much total? Thanks Mark

    Yea, I did it.

    1985 535i converted to 5 speed.

    My very best suggestion: DON'T DO IT!!

    Your best approach is to get a FREE 5 speed car to canabalize, otherwise, just sell your auto and buy a 5 speed car. The parts, let alone the labor, tweeks, and minor troubles just are NOT WORTH it. Even if you are a very competent mechanic, IMO it's still too much work for effectivly nothing for trade-in value.

    5 speed 535i cars are-a-plenty. Just buy one. It's engineered by BMW, manufactured properly, much less effort, time and money.
