The notorius e46 idle surge/stall problem
Ok, so i've been doing my research, trying to find a solution to my surging/dipping & stalling idle on my 5-speed e46.
I've seen a few hundred posts on this issue, mostly just people speaking up advising they too have the problem.
The only solution I see mentioned is something to do with the VANOS system, does anyone know if this is indeed the solution, and what part of the VANOS system was replaced?
My dealer doesn't seem to think there is a problem, and I'd rather get it fixed that go into the whole lemow law thing, but if they can't fix it, I just might have to go that route.
Sorry if this topic has been beaten to death...

Re: The notorius e46 idle surge/stall problem
Dan,
I just sent you an email. I too am experiencing this problem on my 2001 330ci 5-speed. I can't figure out a pattern, although, I do notice that it is hot outside and I have my AC on. Don't know if that is the cause.
This is a frustrating issue for me because I never know when it's going to happen (happens sporadically). However, it is quite dangerous, as 90% of the time it happens, I have the clutch in while making a turn. As far I know, the airbags WILL NOT go off if your car is stalled.
Interested in seeing your response, esp. about the lemon law part.
Thanks!
